Our history
VirtualSociety is a long-running project: a personal dream, years of prototypes, player feedback, then the creation of an independent studio to give it a solid development foundation.
From personal project to indie studio
Before it became a studio project, VirtualSociety was a passion project: a game where players could create their own places, residents and connected stories.
After VirtualSociety Online, we rebuilt the project around a more ambitious technical foundation, deeper 3D tools and a clearer direction focused on living worlds.
A research-informed culture
Our computer science background mainly shapes how we design solid, readable tools that can evolve with the needs of the game.
Constant evolution
The game evolved from 2D prototypes into a new 3D version designed for fast creation, customization and interactions.
Health use cases
Alongside the game, VirtualSociety is also used or adapted with professionals to support children with ASD in medico-social facilities and children with cystic fibrosis at Nancy University Hospital.
The team behind the game
We are a small French team combining development, real-time 3D, UI, animation, creative tools and communication to build VirtualSociety.

What we stand for
Creativity
We build tools that help players imagine places, residents, interactions and stories.
Accessibility
We want creative tools to stay understandable, visual and welcoming for different ways to play.
Community
VirtualSociety is designed for players who want to create, share, roleplay and build stories together.
Origin story
From 2014 to today
A personal project shaped in 2D
Nico started VirtualSociety in 2014 and developed the first prototypes alone for about six years. Jimmy joined the project in 2020; their work opened the way to a more ambitious version and a gradual move to 3D.
From VirtualSociety Online to Cats & Foxes
VirtualSociety Online brought the first ideas to a community of players. In late 2022, Cats & Foxes was created to give the project a sustainable structure and a new technical foundation.
Building, testing and preparing the next step
The team is developing building tools, customization, interactions and multiplayer. The next step is to gradually open the game to feedback and playtests.
The people who help us
VirtualSociety is growing thanks to an engaged community of moderators, Patreon members and beta testers, whose support and feedback guide the project at every stage of its development.
